About

Meet Mukesh Mishra, MSW, RCSW

Registered Clinical Social Worker offering online counselling to clients in Surrey and throughout British Columbia, in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Nepali, Maithili and Bhojpuri.

I'm Mukesh Mishra, a Registered Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work and clinical counselling training. My work is with adults, couples and families who are carrying something they'd like help with — anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, conflict at home, or a change in life that has taken more out of them than they expected.

A lot of the people I meet have thought about counselling for a long time before reaching out. Sometimes what held them back was time or cost. Often it was something quieter: a worry about being judged, a sense that personal matters belong inside the family, or the tiredness of imagining explaining their culture and their family structure before getting to the actual problem.

You may be carrying more than the people around you realize. My role is not to hand you a diagnosis or a plan you didn't ask for. It is to listen carefully, help you understand what you're experiencing, and work with you on what you want to be different.

A Counselling Approach Built Around You

I work in a client-centred, strength-based and trauma-informed way. That means we go at a pace you set, we pay attention to what is already working in your life, and we treat difficult experiences with care rather than pushing through them.

I draw on several evidence-informed therapeutic approaches, and I choose between them based on the person in front of me. The approach is tailored to the person rather than forcing every client into the same treatment model — not every approach below is used with every client.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Working with thought patterns that keep difficult feelings in place.

  • EMDR

A structured approach used with some clients processing traumatic memories.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Practical skills for intense emotions, distress and relationships.

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy

Research-informed tools for communication and conflict between partners.

  • Attachment-based approaches

Understanding how early relationships shape present ones.

  • Emotion-focused approaches

Making room for emotions rather than managing around them.

  • Mindfulness-based interventions

Grounding and awareness practices, when they fit the person.

  • Languages

Counselling in the Language That Feels Like Yours

Counselling is available in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Nepali, Maithili and Bhojpuri. Some clients use one language throughout; others move between two. Both are fine.

  • English
  • Hindi
  • Punjabi
  • Nepali
  • Maithili
  • Bhojpuri
  • Cultural Context, Without Assumptions

I work with people from South Asian, Indian, Nepali and many other communities in Surrey and across BC, as well as newcomers and first-generation Canadians navigating two sets of expectations at once. Culture matters in counselling — and no two people carry it the same way.

So I ask rather than assume. What your family expects of you, what your faith means to you, what you want for your own life: these are yours to define. You can explore counselling services or contact Mukesh about online counselling whenever you feel ready.
